World Mental Health Day: Brain & Body-Based Tips

World Mental Health Day is October 10. Amanda Potter, LCSW, LLC and The Union, Wellness Boutique are celebrating with 5 brain and body-based tips. Scroll past the video for the complete list.

Brain & Body-Based Tips

Tip #1 When it’s time to get out of bed (and a part of you really, really doesn’t want to): Begin slowly wiggling your fingers & toes. Gently notice what happens. Optional bonus: Add slowly looking around the room.

Tip #2 When you need soothing & comfort: Hum or sing. Gently notice what happens. Optional bonus: Add placing your hand(s) on your heart and/or belly.

Tip #3 When you’re feeling lost, uncertain or agitated: Push against a wall. Gently notice what happens. Optional bonus for agitation: Add clenching your teeth.

Tip #4 When you’re experiencing tension or feeling too much energy: Reach your hands above your head. Gently notice what happens. Optional bonus: Add wiggling your hands, wrists & arms above your head until a deep inhale emerges.

Tip #5 When you need to connect to support: Bring your attention to the edges of your body that are in contact with the chair and/or floor beneath you. Gently notice what happens. Optional bonus: Add imagining the earth supporting you & all that you carry. Consider yielding into that support. Try with bare feet and/or outside.

Join us in celebrating World Mental Health Day by trying one of these tips in the next 24 hours. Let us know what you notice.
